Universitas Jember menutup tahun 2020 dengan status baru. Kampus Kebangsaan resmi menjadi Perguruan Tinggi Negeri (PTN) berstatus Badan Layanan Umum (BLU). Kabar gembira ini disampaikan langsung oleh Rektor Universitas Jember saat menyampaikan pidato wisuda dalam upacara wisuda periode I tahun akademik 2020/2021 yang digelar di auditorium Universitas Jember (19/12). Menurut Iwan Taruna, status baru ini menunjukkan pemerintah puas dan percaya atas pelaksanaan roda organisasi Universitas Jember selama ini. Pasalnya esensi dari BLU adalah pemberian otonomi yang lebih luas dalam pengelolaan sumber daya, termasuk dalam pengelolaan keuangan.
“Syukur alhamdulillah semenjak tanggal 17 Desember 2020, Universitas Jember telah resmi menyandang status Badan Layanan Umum yang diberikan oleh pemerintah dalam hal ini Menteri Keuangan. Kesuksesan ini adalah berkat kerja keras semua pihak utamanya keluarga besar Universitas Jember. Untuk itu Universitas Jember mengucapkan terima kasih kepada Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan serta Menteri Keuangan yang memberikan kepercayaan dan kesempatan kepada Universitas Jember menjadi Badan Layanan Umum.Tentu saja kesuksesan ini harus kita imbangi dengan kerja keras, sebab status Badan Layanan Umum membuka peluang juga tantangan,” jelas Iwan Taruna kepada 900 wisudawan yang mengikuti upacara secara daring dari kediamannya masing-masing.
Menurut Iwan Taruna, dengan menyandang status BLU maka Universitas Jember bertransformasi menjadi perguruan tinggi yang memiliki otonomi dan fleksibilitas dalam mengatur keuangan, pengelolaan aset serta kesempatan menjalin kerjasama yang lebih luas dengan stake holder. “Dan muara dari status baru kita adalah upaya meningkatkan layanan Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi. Oleh karena itu saya mengajak segenap keluarga besar Universitas Jember, mahasiswa, dosen, tenaga kependidikan dan alumni untuk bergandengan tangan, bekerjasama dalam kebersamaan saat memasuki era baru BLU, untuk mewujudkan Universitas Jember yang ternama di tingkat internasional,” ajak Rektor Universitas Jember.
Dalam wisuda periode I tahun akademik 2020/2021, predikat wisudawan berprestasi dengan Indeks Prestasi Kumulatif (IPK) tertinggi disematkan kepada Hairus Sofiana, S.Pd dari Program Studi Pendidikan Luar Sekolah FKIP dengan IPK 3,92. Wisudawan asal Situbondo ini menyelesaikan kuliah selama 3 tahun 10 bulan dan 29 hari. Sementara Ayu Dwi Fernanda, A.Md, lulusan Program Studi Diploma 3 Administrasi Keuangan Fakultas Ekonomi dan Bisnis menjadi yang terbaik di jenjang diploma setelah meraih IPK 3,89 setelah menyelesaikan kuliah 2 tahun 11 bulan 3 hari.
Dan yang menggembirakan, jumlah wisudawan yang IPK-nya melebihi 3,50 mencapai 24 persen dari total wisudawan yakni 224 orang, sementara mereka yang lulus tepat waktu mencapai 62 persen atau 565 orang. Berikut data jumlah wisudawan periode I tahun akademik 2020/2021 di setiap fakultas ;
