The PAN ASEAN Coalition for Epidemic and Outbreak Preparedness (PACE-UP) is a Center for global health and pandemic prevention in Asia led by a multidisciplinary consortium of North-South and South- South collaborations.Our consortium leverages on equitable Asia-Europe-Africa partnerships to build and strengthen regional and ASEAN-wide capacity and systems to respond rapidly and effectively to emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases in the region. The Global Health and Pandemic Prevention Center is located at Vietnamese-German Center for Medical Research (VG-CARE) in Hanoi, Vietnam and receives funding from German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) through the Federal foreign office Germany (AA).

University of Jember in collaboration with PACE UP will organize the Expert Seminar and Workshop “Emerging and Re-Emerging Infectious Diseases” (Module 1) and “Hands-On Training on Basic Principles of Biosafety” (Module 2). These events will be held at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jember on 23-24 April 2024 (Module I), and 29-30 April 2024 (Module II).

The workshop will be attended by scientists, lecturers, PhD students, health professionals, and others from Indonesia, Vietnam, Germany, Europe, and Africa, will organized by the DAAD Global Health Centre, also known as PACE-UP, Global Health Centre in Asia, which is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and the DAAD.

The workshop will be divided into two modules. Module 1 focuses on emerging and re-emerging viruses that are major players among the various pathogens that have recently caused epidemics, as demonstrated by several outbreaks. Module 1 aims to provide insights into the viral epidemiology of emerging and re-emerging viruses, outbreak detection, early management and infection control mechanisms, antimicrobial resistance, and zoonoses. It focuses on the scientific and medical measures to prevent and control the emergence or re-emergence of viruses. It also provides insights into the response of governments and agencies such as the World Health Organization to control the spread of viruses worldwide. The target audience is research-active personnel with postgraduate qualifications (MD, MSc, MPH, PhD), including physicians, veterinarians, entomologists, biomedical scientists and epidemiologists.

Module 2 focuses on the skills and competencies required by frontline staff in national referral centers and reference laboratories. It is aimed at doctors, nurses, and laboratory scientists who must provide diagnostic services and clinical care for patients with emerging infectious diseases. The target audience is active and frontline health workers with completed training, including doctors, technicians, study nurses, research assistants, bachelor, public health, in the biomedical field.
